Summer Camps – July 2021
Week 1
July 5 – 9
Lions Park – Come join Miss Cheryl and our special guest teacher the fabulous and funny Miss Belva from Muddy Boot Prints for some wonderful exploration in beautiful Lions Park. We will play among the shady trees and head down to the river to explore and look for minnows and listen to the local birds around us. We’ll have our mud kitchen and magnifying glasses out to help in our exploration.
Week 2
July 12 – 16
Glen Park – We’ll meet in this beautiful park with open fields and tall Douglas Fir and Cedar trees. We’ll be sure to stay cool from the heat of the hot summer sun in the shade of treed trails. What kinds of plants, animals and birds live here in the middle of our city? We’ll also run, jump and climb among the open spaces and play among the trees, logs and stumps.
Week 3
July 19 – 23
Hockaday Park – Oh what fun we’ll have at this little gem of a park. After we explore the playground and open field we’ll take the time to head into the forested trails along the river and learn about the fish, bugs and animals that live here. We’ll stop to explore along the sandy river banks and we’ll be sure to have our mud kitchen!
Week 4
July 26 – 30
Blue Mountain Park – There is just so much to explore at Blue Mountain. We’ll hang out under the shade of the tall forest trees and explore the pond and waterfall. Bring your swimsuit too as we may head to the splash pad to cool off.
What to wear?! A complete gear list…
Cold, wet weather
- Rain coat and rain pants.
- Rain boots – in cold weather rain boots with a warm liner or with neoprene (Kamiks or Bogs).
- Warm under layers made of wool or polyester fleece.Use at least three layers in cold weather. No cotton please. Cotton gets wet and draws the warmth out of your body.
- A toque that fits under a hood.No pom poms please. They are so cute but they don’t fit under a hood.
- Warm, waterproof mittens.
Warm, dry weather
- Brimmed sun hat.
- Sunscreen already applied.
- Closed toed shoes.
- Long sleeved shirt and pants (cotton is ok in the warm, dry weather).
- Extra sweater or hoodie.
- Rain coat (can be kept in backpack or tied to the outside of pack).
What goes in the backpack?
Each child needs to come with a back pack that fits their body and can fit all the things they need. It’s best to have a pack with a chest strap which helps the pack to fit comfortably throughout the day. The pack should contain the following items:
- Extra set of clothes (socks, underwear, pants, shirt) in a waterproof bag (ziplocks work great).
- Diapers and wipes if necessary.
- Water bottle.
- Snack in a reusable container that your child can open and close.
- A small cup for tea.
- Whistle to hang on back pack (often these are built into the chest strap).
Note that educators do carry an extra set of clothing, sunscreen and hand warmers just in case. Each child is expected to come appropriately dressed for the weather.
