April 2023 Newsletter

Last week we were so excited to have our Kindness Week and travel on the skytrain.  We spread smiles to many delighted adults and saw first-hand what giving can do to brighten someone’s day.  The children did a great job of sticking together while boarding the skytrain and walking all the way to Rocky Point.  There was so much to see along the way and the beautiful destination was worth the journey.  I’m so proud of how well everyone did.  We just might have to make the skytrain adventures a regular thing!

ARCHEOLOGY WEEK  (April 3 – 6)

We have noticed some children really like to dig so we’ve decided to extend our learning with an Archeology Week.

We will be talking about archeology, fossils and dinosaurs.  As well, we will have some prepared “fossils” for the children to dig up and dust off over the course of the week.  Miss Rachel and I are so excited get digging with everyone.

LEROY THE RACOON (Wednesday, April 19th)

On Wednesday, April 19th we will have a special guest author, Jordan Mayer, share his new children’s book Leroy the Racoon.  Jordan was introduced to me by Allison, mom to Greyson.  As well as having published his first children’s book, Jordan holds a Master Degree in Education with a focus on Imaginative Education.  He has been a teacher in Alberta and BC since 2014 and he is passionate about making learning fun for learners of any age.  We have the pleasure of welcoming Jordan to our story time to share Leroy the Racoon.

I am inviting all children to attend this event even if your child does not normally attend on Wednesdays, they are welcome to join us for the entire morning.  If you would like your child to join us on that day and your child normally does not come on Wednesdays please let me know.  I do have limited space so let me know if you’d like your child to attend.

Also if you wish to get familiar with Jordan’s book he will be at the following locations soon.  Mark your calendars and come out:

  • On Saturday March 18th, Jordan Mayer (author of Leroy the Raccoon) will be at Kinder Books in New Westminster (810 Quayside Dr #101, New Westminster, BC). Jordan will be signing copies of the book and would love to meet you! (Jordan will be at Kinder Books from 11:00 AM to 4PM)
  • On Sunday, March 19th, Jordan Mayer will be leading a story time with arts and crafts at Kinder Books! Come at 9:30 AM and head upstairs (by the circus school). Jordan will be doing a reading and sharing a message on the topic of friendship. After this, children will have the opportunity to create a craft based on the book. The event is free but you will need to sign up so there will be enough materials for everyone.
