Who we are

Room to Roam Outdoor Learning is an outdoor nature-based early learning forest preschool program for 2.5 to 5 year olds in the Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, and Port Moody area with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning, mindfulness, curiosity and lots of muddy fun. We offer half day programs during the school year and week long summer camps in July. Our curriculum gives children a chance to build solid relationships, gain self-confidence, and expand their knowledge of local plant and wild-life, while practicing kindness and anchoring them in their local community.

We were thrilled that Room to Roam Outdoor Learning was chosen as the best home-based business by Port Coquitlam representatives, the Downtown PoCo Business Improvement Association (BIA) and the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce (TCCC). It was a great event and we congratulate all of the other candidates and winners for 2023. I was so excited when I first stumbled upon Room to Roam while searching for outdoor schools in the area. Their values and beliefs perfectly aligned with my own and I couldn’t wait for my outdoor loving son to attend! After having him attend full time for nearly a year now, I can tell you that my excitement has only grown, as well as a deep appreciation for what he is experiencing and doing. I have seen my son flourish in this program and am so incredibly grateful that he has had this experience under the expert guidance and care of his wonderful teachers. I don’t know what you guys did to my kid, we have been having fun days [away] but he still asks to go to school in the mornings (like 100 times) and after we’re done with activities. He had a blast at Science World, got him in the car and was asking me to drive him to school because he wanted to see Miss Rachel and Miss Cheryl. Room to Roam has been the most incredible experience for our whole family. Our son has attended for almost 2 years now and it has been the best. Through sun, rain, snow and wind, our son has become acclimatized to our BC weather and really enjoys going outside now. It really is simple, properly dressed for the temperature and he has the time of his life outdoors. Thank you Cheryl, Nina, Izzy and Rachel for the best memories, adventures and comfort. It is an absolute pleasure to leave my sweet kid in the hands of such incredible educators.

Can I give 100 stars? Our son attended Room to Roam for a year and we’re so sad we’re moving on to kindergarten and can’t continue. We started with part time summer camp and immediately jumped on the chance to have him attend full time in the Fall when it was made available. Cheryl and Nina have been the best first teachers any parents could dream of. RtoR is full of joy, playfulness, learning, adventure and our son had the best year, even in the rain! I could go on and on – truly, the best preschool experience we could have hoped for and we’re so grateful that we found the program!

Our daughter loves going to Room to Roam. This preschool is the perfect mix of playing, exploring, and learning. The kids also learn a lot about important values like being kind to each other. Our daughter made a lot of new friends and she really likes the teachers. We highly recommend this preschool.
